Sexual Abuse

First Light is a charity for anyone who is experiencing or has experienced sexual violence. Counselling is an opportunity to talk about what brought you to First Light, in a safe place without fear of judgement.

Our counsellors understand the impact and effects of sexual violence and trauma and can help you cope with the negative feelings that accompany this.

Counselling is a process that helps you understand why you feel the way you do. It can help you to begin to feel resourceful again and to move forward with your life. As you gain strength and confidence it may provide an opportunity to focus on new, realistic goals.

At First Light we are currently offering a short-term intervention called:

“Creative Connections”

Creative Connections is aimed for Children aged 5-10 years olds in relation to sexual violence or abuse, including pre-trial therapy where relevant. The broad method for the Shared Program has its heart in Bibliotherapy.

Using the art of storytelling to start conversation and play. Through this we look to use fantasy, stories, narration, and feelings etc... to offer the child a form of expression after sexual abuse. To look at the restoration of self-esteem, autonomy over one’s own body and the right at any age to say “no”.

Sessional Offering

Support offering would include:

  • A block of 6 sessions.
  • Within these sessions, clients are offered child centric, client focus support.
  • Facilitated by a suitably qualified supporting adult.
  • Private room, near to where parent is waiting.
  • The work is non-prescriptive but would contain elements of age-appropriate psychoeducation.

Please contact office@fordprimary.co.uk if you feel that this is a service your child would benefit from.
