Welcome to Ford Primary School

Y3 | Mr Edgar

"Together we will make learning a creative journey.

Bio

I am a newly qualified teacher currently entering my second year at Ford Primary School, where I work as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) and lead music across the school. Before joining Ford, I have worked in several schools across Plymouth, working as a student teacher and voluntary assistant.

With a strong passion for music and education, I believe in creating enriching, creative learning experiences that engage all pupils.  As someone who grew up on a council estate, I understand the challenges that many children face. I’m especially committed to supporting disadvantaged pupils to thrive and reach their full potential, through providing the same opportunities and experiences that I had when I was in primary school.

Music has always played a significant role in my life, I began learning to play the trombone from the age of eight, when I was in year 4 in primary school. This passion has continued throughout my life and I am deeply appreciative of all the social, creative, cognitive benefits that music offers.  I am passionate about using music to inspire, build confidence, and create a sense of belonging in the classroom. It’s a privilege to help foster a love of learning and creativity in the next generation.

In addition to my role at Ford, I also play in a brass band where I regularly take part in concerts, competitions, carnivals and other engagements throughout the year. I am also a keen runner, where you will regularly find me competing a Parkrun in Central Park every Saturday morning.

Why Ford?

I previously worked at Mayflower Community Academy as a music teaching assistant. I was excited to embark on my new journey at Ford Primary School as a music lead and establish new and exciting opportunities for my pupils. Working with a supportive team that challenges me to be my best and values the contributions I make. It is a working environment full of energy and inspiration.

What am I reading?

As I BIG Harry Potter fan, I enjoy reading the Harry Potter series and in particular drawing comparisons between the books and the films. I also enjoy reading other book series with film adaptions, such as The Hunger Games, Maze Runner and The Chronicles of Narnia.

What am I researching?

As part of my ongoing professional development I am delving deeper into Rosenshines Principles of Instruction and using Teaching Walkthru's by Oliver Caviglioli and Tom Sherrington to support my teaching practice.
